How to Name Change in Punjab 

I have changed my first and last names to be able answer your question fully.

The name change process is simple. I have done it myself and it is possible for anyone who knows how. Many people are changing their names for many reasons these days. These steps will help anyone who wishes to change their name.

1. Affidavit: After you decide your new name, you will need to sign an affidavit concerning the name change. You will need to go to a notary to get an affidavit regarding the name change. You will need to make an affidavit using a Rs 50 stamp. These things should be mentioned in your affidavit: new name, address, old name, and valid reason for name changes (not like your current or astrology numberology, or any other). Your notary should notarize this affidavit.
2. Newspaper Publication – This is the second step. It is publishing your name-change ad on two newapapers. The paper can be any type of paper, it doesn't matter if it is times or hindu. I recommend that you publish your ad in at least two local newspapers in your area. You should have one ad in your native tongue and one in the national language. Ad should look like this: Old name, father name address area pincode I have changed my name to New for all future purposes
3. Gazette Notification - This is the last step in the name change process. I will recommend that you publish your name change notification in either your state or central gazette. You will need your name-change affidavit and newspaper ads. In punjab, i don't need to have these. However, gazette officials stated that a newspaper ad is not required for gazette. In Rajasthan, I need to submit an affidavit and 1050 Rs DD. Also, I will need an application form and my Id (aadhar card, marksheet, etc). You can also visit your state gazette to better understand the process. Once you have submitted your form, they will issue you a slip. After a month, you can return to govt press and give the slip to them. They will then give you a gazette. In that gazette book, you will find your notification under name change notifications. Now you can start enjoying your new name after gazette notification.
4. These three steps will allow you to change your name on all documents. You will need your name change form, newspaper ad (in some areas) and gazette notification. You cannot change your name on educational certificates. It is not required. Get your name changed in documents luke Aadhar Card Pan Card License Bank Account etc.
